Locomotive Engineer National Agreement

As an advice to Railway Age, I would like to warn them not to live in the past and try to play SMART-TD against the BLET. We work closely with the Coordinated Bargaining Coalition (CBC) on national settlement and the various other disputes that airlines have forced us to do. The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and RailwayMen represents more than 55,000 professional locomotive engineers and railway workers in the United States. BLET is a founding member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. While the national rail contract between SMART-TD and the ncCC-represented railways will be amended on January 1, 2020, the existing contract will remain in effect until it is amended and ratified by smart TD members in accordance with the craft autonomy provisions of The Twenty-One B (21B) section of the SMART Constitution. On November 20, the presidents of the SMART Transportation Division (SMART-TD) worked on railways represented by the National Carrier Conference Committee (NCCC), the changes proposed by smart-TD to agreements on wages, normal conditions and working conditions. The articles also try to scare you by saying that airlines will unilaterally reduce crews at the end of the last moratorium. That is not how the law works. The moratoriums did not succeed for the sunset crew.

On the contrary, Moratoria prohibits one of the parties from sending a notice in accordance with Section 6 in order to amend or modify the current Crew Agreements Consist until the last protected personnel member is eliminated. Once this is done, a section 6 communication can be notified and the next generation of agreements can be negotiated through the long and long process of the RLA. In related news, CSXT will not be part of the national negotiations, except in health and wellness. With regard to wages and rules, SMART-TD and CSX agreed to start local negotiations on behalf of railway workers from 21 January 2020. “We are pleased to announce the creation of the coordinated negotiating coalition, as we are on the cusp of the most critical round of national negotiations in a generation. The unions are: the American Train Dispatchers Association; the brotherhood of locomotive drivers and railway workers; The Brotherhood of Road Maintenance; The Brotherhood of Railway Signal Men; The International Association of Machinists and Aeronautics and Space Workers; International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers, Mechanical Division; International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers, Transportation Division; The International Boiler Brotherhood; The International Brotherhood of Electricity Workers; Fireman District National Conference – Oilers, Local 32BJ, SEIU; Transport Communications Union (IAM); and the transport workers` union. System agreements are negotiated or implemented in the six Pacific regions of the Union represented by THE BLET.
